Kuchiku Revamped!

We removed the 1.4m floor counters and replaced it with a waist level beauty counter. This gives the shop better visibility and accessibility. Shoppers can now have a better experience browsing beauty products.

What do you think of this?

Our First Store: Kuchiku @ Plaza Singapura!

We have finally taken our first step of our Retail Adventure. We have opened our first retail sharing concept store at Plaza Singapura, Basement 1!

I thank all the vendors who supported us with their trust to accompany us in our very first outlet. After nearly 1 month into operations, I finally found time to update our blog...LoL! I'm sharing the pictures that I took on a typical thursday nite, here you go...

Our frontage vendor with an impressive range of irresistable handmade clog heels

The crowd just can't resist the variety

flip~flop, clip~clop, tip~top, buy 2 get 10% off!

Do you feel the "kuchiku" sensation?

Look at the mess made by all the browsing! Not that i mind at all!
Its great to have a retail shop at such a fantastic location. The sales have been good despite these gloomy times. I'm sure we can all do better when the economy recovers!
After almost a month since our opening, I'm glad to see that our retail rental sharing concept makes good business sense for all our vendors. More than 70% of our vendors' sales have already exceeded their rental by 2 times or more. Many of them also say that its easier to run their retail biz with us because of the lower operations cost. i'm really happy to have provided my vendors with a retail solution; a retail biz that makes profit a reality.
Kuchiku will be at Plaza Singapura till 23rd Feb, 2009. We are also opening a new outlet in Tampines early next year. If you want to sell your products with us, drop us an email (sherynn@kuchiku.sg) or call Keith @ 9383 3352!

High Rental Costs for Retail Space: How can Entrepreneurs Sell their Stuffs?

Property prices in Singapore are at an all time high. Not only homes, but even retail spaces are at ridiculous prices. Add in security deposits, advanced rent down-payments, renovation works, stamping fees and the cost of importing products, opening a shop can easily cost $100k in a good traffic shopping mall.

Then there is online marketing: Auctions, blogshops, e-commerce websites. The only thing that works for me? Auction. My blog and website competes for attention with so many others; there are celebrity bloggers, online game portals, YouTube, and hundreds of blogs and e-shops just like mine, all selling their unique products.

How can a “small fry” like me compete with the “big boys” out there? When can I sell enough of my products to make it my full time business? I have an idea…

My Solution

I am going ahead to open a retail shop in a good human traffic area, a place like Far East Plaza or Plaza Singapura, which draws a lot of shoppers within my target market. As I only sell 3 products now (ladies bags, bamboo lamps & sea shell décor products), I do not need much space to display my stuff.

I am gathering entrepreneurs like myself to share the shop space with me. With shop sharing, it will only cost a few hundred bucks per month instead of $100k upfront. Plus, there are some advantages to this concept:

More people share = less rental
More products = more variety
More variety = more customers browse
More customers browse = more sales, more word of mouth

If you are an aspiring entrepreneur like me, I invite you to join me in my Retail Adventure to share my shop space. I will be posting progress updates on this blog. If you would like to be informed, email me your contacts and products. I will update everyone on the latest developments.
